DJI Avata 2 - Spanish Isles | Journey to the Canary Islands

When DJI reached out to help with the launch campaign for the Avata2 I wanted to create something special and the Canary Islands immediately came to mind. The Canary Islands are a volcanic archipelago off the coast of northwestern Africa and boast an insane diversity of spectacular and bizarre landscapes which was exactly what I had envisioned for this project. As the Islands stretch farther from the coast of Morroco they turn from harsh desert to lush greenery. I chose to film on the Islands of Tenerife, La Palma, and Lanzarote in order to show the amazing diversity across these islands. I hope you enjoy the video! Big thanks to Chris Foy for helping me film this video and running around the islands with me. All product shots and drone air to air by @chrisfoyofficial Thanks to Rodrigo from Flow Trails La Palma for helping with the mountain biking scenes and showing us some incredible hidden gems around La Palma Island. Also thanks to Airspots Tenerife for coordinating the paragliding sequence. Definitely check them out if you’re looking to try paragliding in Tenerife. How was my experience flying and filming with the Avata2? The short answer is that I really enjoyed it! To be honest I was a bit skeptical coming from my traditional fpv setups which are very fast and capable and paired with a GoPro11 reelsteady the image and flight performance combo is tough to beat. I was genuinely worried that I would put in all the work to capture these locations and be a bit disappointed with the footage. But to be honest I actually looked forward to pulling out the Avata2 over my other fpv setups which I did bring along as well. The Avata2 is so lightweight and the setup is super fast and convenient. The image looks great paired with gyroflow and DLog M is a nice profile to grade. I would say the image is about 90% as good as GoPro. The flight time is also amazing. Not a single other fpv drone I own would be this versatile in so many scenarios. From tight spaces to long-range mountain dives this drone can really do it all. I would definitely recommend it for a beginner looking to get into fpv for the first time. Of course, it is still a cinewhoop so don’t expect to have the power of a 5in but if you adjust your flying accordingly knowing you have a bit less power then you can absolutely pull off some amazing shots. Being able to start and stop recording as well as change camera settings mid-flight is a bit of a game changer. Another capability of the Avata2 which is definitely overlooked is the ability to change the camera angle mid-flight. I played around with this a bit to achieve camera movement that is impossible with most traditional fpv setups. For example the last shot which goes from manual forward to backward flight all while keeping the subject in frame is only possible due to the ability to change camera angle. Lots to love about this drone and I’m looking forward to using it for future projects.
