Tommy Armstrong: the pitman poet

Northern Writes is an ambitious participatory arts programme, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Stanley AAP, that celebrates the work of the pitman poet Tommy Armstrong. The project brings together primary schools, secondary schools and community groups from the Stanley area, together with photographers, film-makers, musicians, poets, artists and folk singers to celebrate the work of Tommy Armstrong. This 16mm film, created by film-maker Julia Parks, captures the spirit and the work of the pitman poet and acknowledges his continuing legacy. We are grateful to all those who have contributed their time, and their talents to the making of this film.
