Precise Design with Guides and Rulers - Adobe After Effects Tutorial

Do you need to place your Guides at a specific location in your comp, but struggle using After Effects’ Ruler in order to get an exact location? Here’s a little known tip that will get your Guides to an exact pixel location, and speed up your workflow. Guides and Rulers go hand in hand. So first, let’s call up our Ruler. To do that, go to VIEW/SHOW RULERS or use the shortcut CTRL/CMD R. Rulers have both horizontal and vertical measurements, which you can see here. Now a Guide is what you pull from a Ruler. To do that, hover over a ruler, LEFT-CLICK and drag. If we go back to VIEW/SHOW RULERS, you’ll see that you can show, snap to, lock, clear, export, and import guides. But did you know that you can also place your Guide at a pixel-specific location? Pull a vertical guide from its ruler, RIGHT-CLICK, and change the guide’s position to 500 pixels.
