Nothing But A 3DS - Full Album

Nothing But A 3DS is easily the biggest project of any kind that I’ve ever done, and it is indeed my first album. The music was recorded straight out of the headphone jack of the 3DS, and then basic mastering was done in Ableton to clean these tracks up and make them a lot less harsh on the ears. For context to the scope of this project, the opening track “Farther“, was made some time early 2021, and the final track “Tear“, was made mid way through 2024. As a whole, the album goes almost perfectly in order from the earliest piece of music I consider listenable, up until today, where I’ve gotten a lot more competent at making music, but in doing so have completely outgrown the capabilities of the software. Now don’t get me wrong, the limitations of the software and the 3DS itself are precisely what made this so fun for me, the quirks and flaws of the music are what gives it so much character, but by the end of the album, you can really start to tell that the tracks are well and truly pushing the software to its limits, and this actually causes a lot of issues. I will have a companion video up shortly, I’ll link it here when it is done. It will go over some tracks, explaining how I made them, what inspired me, and what the 3DS work flow looks like, and that video will also go over the various weird problems I faced, as well as the things I learned during the making of the album regarding music and the creative process. Ultimately though in this video, the tracks are sounding the best they’ve ever sounded, so I’m very happy with it, and I really am looking forward to seeing what people think of this crazy thing I’ve created. Also this may be worth checking out, it is an awesome old website that I found for the software. It’s genuinely really cool that it’s still up.
