The desire to create this edit stems from my deep love for Morna music. A love born from an early age, since in the 90s the pathos of Cesaria Evora’s voice, together with that of other great artists, filled the afternoons of a child who used the piano at home to improvise over what he loved most. 10 years after the death of the barefoot Diva, this love still continues. Petit Pays is probably not Cesaria Evora’s best known song, it is simply the one most loaded with memories for me. I have kept intact the so perfect melodic system of the piece, even preserving its original tempo. My efforts have been focused on creating a rich but never heavy percussive groove, enriched by warm, dry instrumental strokes and a delicate final melodic line improvised with a soft sounding synth that lets itself be accompanied by the string instruments of the original piece. I hope you enjoy this version at least as much as I enjoyed working on it. ⋘ ────── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ────── ⋙ About Salvatore Evola : Classical musician, curious pianist who grew up immersed in multiform sounds from all over the world which were created either analogically or digitally. Having approached electronic music as a DJ and later as a producer, he gets great satisfaction in Mexico, thanks to Netflix. He was in fact one of the artists chosen for the soundtrack of the second season of “Club de Cuervos” . Deep admirer of World Music, after studying the piano, he reaches the awareness that the greatest achievement of Music is to be a message which does not need a language.
