Studio work began on February 6, 1979 in Polar Studios in Stockholm and the first demo recording had the working name I Can Do It . Instead of using solo vocals by Agnetha Fältskog or Anni-Frid Lyngstad , the group chose to let Björn Ulvaeus handle the vocals in this recording. This was the first time since the group released Rock Me as a single in Australia in 1975 that Ulvaeus had solo vocals on an Abba single. Before the release of Does Your Mother Know, the recording was shortened by cutting out a 30-second drum intro by Ola Brunkert . However, the group performed the song on the British BBC TV program Abba in Switzerland in February 1979 with a drum intro. Does Your Mother Know was released as a single internationally in April 1979.
