Emily Jeanne - Blue Dawn

Embracing some of the most pointedly direct sounds on the series so far, PM welcomes the rapidly rising talents of Emily Jeanne into the fold for two transcendental trips par excellence. In recent years Jeanne has firmly established herself as a luminary within Belgium’s club scene and beyond, offering a widescreen approach to the dancefloor as beautifully demonstrated on her 2020 album Public By Default. While there has been steady stream of tracks appearing on compilations in the mean time, it’s taken a while to hear a fresh standalone release from an artist displaying so much creativity in her prolific DJ work. Elegance is the name of the game on these two measured workouts, leading in with the smoky meditation and insistent propulsion of ‘Blue Dawn’ before switching to the broken, machine funk-plated formation of ‘Ao Sen’. There’s a sense of adventure and progression in both instances, as well as a keen instinct for making moodiness sound engaging and warm - an assured shot in the arm for the self-serious techno crowd.
