Slam continues to evolve their sound with their latest four-track release, Activate EP. Here, the focus is firmly rooted in the subterranean, exploring deeper hypnotic regions with a varied selection of raw, cerebral stripped-out techno. The title track, “Activate,“ opens with deep, driving, pulsing rhythms and straightforward percussive elements, led with hypnotic vocal loops. “Quantum“ delves deeper as dubbed-out reverb and delay saturate the tripped-out acid bass sounds that flicker into existence as stripped yet effective drums create the intensity. “Somnambulist“ continues the stripped-back nature of the EP as subtle changes in FX give the track life while the swelling percussive elements drive the rhythms. “Trsmit“ offers up a tougher yet still minimalistic approach to close out the EP.
