Lockdown In The Big Smoke Hot on the heels of a scorching release for Shall Not Fade, Sydney born and bred radio host, DJ/producer AK SPORTS readies five devastating cuts of distinct Nu-Sports club; finding their Higher Power - a new-age rave pairing formed from within a blazing ball of hell-fire. Releases and remixes have followed on Dansu Discs, Mad Decent and CLUB GLOW (where they produced a collaborative EP with rising artist Kessler), and their Balamii radio show has welcomed guests from Dagga, Allan Fitzpatrick, Moktar, Mell G, Nova Cheq and Nikki Nair. Inspired by the lack of female faces in a male-dominated scene, AK SPORTS has been at the forefront of a big-room, warehouse sound being championed in Australia (X CLUB, Mall Grab) that has been borrowing from the golden eras of trance and hardcore, whilst also catapulting that same energy straight into the dance through a contemporary lens. ‘West Coast’ tears itself into two forms - one a heavyweight 4x4 power mix, the other a ravey cut of breakbeat hardcore that melts across a scattered rhythm. ‘Une Amie’ floats like a killer-bee amongst swirls of synthy colours and patterns on a deep, driving and frenzied techno flow. ‘Eurostar’ is the soundtrack to what would happen if the high-speed, multi-national rail service was somewhere transported the a Mario Kart multiverse – a cut of trance-fused Euro-techno – before ‘Lockdown in the Big Smoke’ takes us on a melancholic trip into the dead of night on a killer techno-spooker.
