The United States Congress has admitted Hawaii as the 50th State. The islands were discovered over 180 years ago by the famous British navigator, Captain Cook. In 1898 they were annexed by the United States, and in this century they have become world-famous as a holiday paradise. Many come to Hawaii to pay tribute to those who died at Pearl Harbour in 1941. Explosions aren’t foreign to the islands: the world’s largest active volcano makes a vivid contrast to the warm semi-tropical garden below, and in Hawaii, the milk comes in coconuts.
