As previously announced, this year’s Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala festival is dedicated to peace in Ukraine and has gained even more significance by becoming a platform of support and solidarity for Ukrainian artists and performers, who are widely represented in the festival program. What makes this year’s festival special is that it not only promotes the enjoyment of music and contemporary ballet, but also calls for practical support for the people of Ukraine.
In addition, the festival organizers are proud to announce that the peaceful theme of the event is supported by a number of worldwide famous artists who have sent video messages to the people and artists of Ukraine, expressing their solidarity and unwavering support and wishing strength to the Ukrainians who have been living in war for more than 500 days already.
In his address to the Ukrainian people, American DJ and producer Diplo said: “Gathering at this epic festival we’ve come together all thanks to the incredible Laima Vaikule. Today we rally behind you to display that your persistence and valor echo across the entire civilized world. And that your unwavering commitment ignites the spark of hope that will forever burn bright!“
Bono, lead singer of Irish band U2, quoted the lyrics of the band’s hit song “Walk On“ in his inspirational message:
“Walk on, walk on
What you got, they can’t steal it
No they can’t even feel it
Walk on, walk on
Stay safe tonight.“
And American rock band Queens of the Stone Age and British rock band Arctic Monkeys supported the Ukrainian people in a joint message, saying, “We support you dearly. The light always overcomes the darkness!“
