Papa Laine’s Children - Bucket’s Got A Hole In It.

Jack ’Papa’ Laine was considered the father of white jazz. Born in 1873, he formed his first band aged just 15, and went on to form a number of brass and marching bands. He was something of a mentor to the likes of Nick La Rocca, Tony Parenti, George and Albert Brunies, and many others. He was an accomplished saxophonist and drummer.... According to the Syncopated Times he was never heard on record until this band was formed in his honour in the 1950s where he played bass drum (uncredited on the label) This line up.... Johnny Wiggs cornet, Tom Brown trombone, Harry Shields clarinet, Stanley Mendelson piano, Edmond Souchon guitar and vocal, Sherwood Mangiapane bass, Ray Bauduc drums. Recorded June 13th 1951.
