LIVE: Climate protesters rally in Paris for sustainable climate law

Climate protesters are taking to the streets of Paris on Sunday, March 28 to demonstrate against what they regard as the French government’s inaction on climate change. Environmental rallies have been called all over the country, one day before a French climate bill with amendments proposed by France’s citizen climate assembly is expected to be discussed in the French National Assembly. The Citizens’ Convention for Climate is a body made up of 150 randomly selected French citizens, with the assembly, the creation of which was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron in April 2019, being tasked with coming up with proposals to cut France’s greenhouse gas emmissions by at least 40 percent compared to 1990. Members of the convention have criticised the government for dropping most of its proposals from the proposed climate bill, while environmental groups argue that others have been watered down, saying that the legislation in its current form won’t help France reach its climate targets.
