Dave And Dusty Cafe (1948)

London. Small boy Dave and his dog, Dusty, wander along a street and look at a menu outside a cafe: ’Meat & 2 Veg 1/6’ and so on. They go inside. Dave sits at a table and is brought a plate of food by a waitress. He turns the plate around, looking at the contents. There are potatoes, green beans and a tiny corner of meat. He looks a bit disappointed, but puts plenty of salt and pepper on the food and tucks in. After two mouthfuls all the meat is gone. Dusty sits begging beside Dave and is rewarded with a chip. Outside the cafe, Dave crosses the ’Meat’ out of ’Meat & 2 Veg’, makes a face and walks off down the street with his dog. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
