Petting a Vicious Old Opossum

Harvesting yaupon we run into a lot of central Texas wildlife. Opossums are a favorite. They’ll show you all their teeth but it’s mostly a big show. Did you know they’re immune to most venoms and will actually eat venomous snakes? Along with snakes they eat all sorts of other nasties... roaches, mice, rats, snails, ticks.. They’re N. America’s only marsupial, meaning they carry their babies in a pouch like a kangaroo. Also, their body temperature is so low they rarely ever harbor the rabies virus.
