While deeply absorbed in research designed to isolate the double nature in man, Dr. Jekyll (Paul Massie) succeeds in releasing his own savage alter ego, Mr. Hyde. As Dr. Jekyll discovers that his wife, Kitty (Dawn Addams), is in love with the gambler Paul Allen (Christopher Lee), Hyde becomes infatuated with a snake dancer named Maria. Determined to get revenge, Hyde lures them into a trap in which Paul is killed by Maria’s python, while Kitty commits suicide after being assaulted by her husband’s bestial alter ego. Revolted at his own second nature, Dr. Jekyll determines to do away with Hyde, only to find his evil half is now strong enough to return at will. So, when Hyde fakes Jekyll’s suicide and attends the inquest as his executor, the two halves of the same man come face to face in a final, all-consuming battle.
