Join us Saturday, January 6 at 6:30PM for a discussion after a screeningof “Between Two Crossings.“
“Between Two Crossings” is a documentary film that follows the journey of Nour, a Palestinian student from Gaza. Nour receives a scholarship to enroll in Portland State University in the United States. In order to attend, Nour struggles to find a way to travel through the only two gates separating the Gaza Strip from the rest of the world: Erez Checkpoint (controlled by Israel) and Rafah Crossing (controlled by Egypt).
“Between Two Crossings” was directed by Yaser Murtaja, a Gazan journalist and filmmaker, who was shot and killed by an Israeli sniper on April 6, 2018 while covering the “Great March of Return” (March 30, 2018—December 27, 2019) protests. This was two weeks after people around the world witnessed Yaser’s Facebook status accompanying an aerial image of Gaza taken from his drone, reading: “I hope the day that I can take this image when I am in the sky instead of on the ground will come! My name is Yaser, I am 30 years old, live in Gaza City and I have never travelled before in my life!”
Yaser’s life was stolen from him and he was unable to fulfill his dream of seeing Gaza and the world from the window of an airplane, nor did he have the chance to finalize this documentary and witness it screened all over the world.
