DYNAmore Express: Overview on Airbag Modeling Possibilities in LS DYNA

Speaker: Steffen Mattern (DYNAmore GmbH) Currently, LS-DYNA provides three different methods for modeling and simulating airbags. The uniform pressure approach (UP), the oldest of the available methods, is computationally very efficient and works well to e.g. simulate the interaction of dummies with fully inflated airbags. In order to meet the increased demands on current simulation models, the accurate representation of the deployment phase became more and more important. Therefore the Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian Method (ALE) is used where the gas domain is discretized with finite elements allowing to simulate gas flow effects and its interaction with the airbag’s fabric. Most recently the Corpuscular Particle Method (CPM) has been implemented where the gas is represented by discrete particles interacting with each other and their surrounding. The latter method is today’s state-of-the-art for modeling airbags for automotive occupant safety simulations with LS-DYNA. This DYNAmore Express Seminar will brie
