Giovanni Paolo Bedini was born in Bologna on December 25, 1844, the third-born son of Filippo Bedini and Orsola Zacchi. He attended the National Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna beginning in 1862, where he immediately showed himself to be particularly versatile and gifted, especially in architectural perspective and figure exercises.
