For nearly five decades, the Darvaza Gas Crater in Turkmenistan has defiantly burned, earning its formidable title, the “Gates Of Hell.“ In 1971, a Russian geological team from the Soviet Union stumbled upon abundant natural gas resources at the site. Faced with the challenge of leaking toxic gas, they opted for an easy solution—igniting the gas directly hoping the toxic gas can quickly dispersed . Little did they know, this act unleashed an eternal flame that has since refused to be extinguished.
