How to Play ’Good Golly Miss Molly’ - Little Richard - Play Along Lesson - Jez Quayle

This Little Richard classic is presented with the lyrics and chords, so you can play or sing along with me and learn how to perform this great tune. In this video I play the song in the key of A, using chords from the key of G with my capo on the second fret. As with many rock ’n’ roll songs, there are ’stops’ during the first few bars of each verse, where you hit the chord once on the first beat of the bar, and stop it ringing. You can here stops like these in Carl Perkins’ ’Blue Suede Shoes’, Little Richard’s ’Ready Teddy’ and Eddie Cochran’s ’Skinny Jim’. Between the stops I play percussive strums to imitate the drums on Little Richard’s record, by placing my left hand across the stings to mute them. You could play the song using plain open chords: G, C and D (you can play the 7ths and 6th as plain major chords).
