Global megastars BTS celebrate their 10-year anniversary

BTS 데뷔 10주년 ’범죄도시3’은 천만관객 향해 This week is special indeed, in that the members of BTS are celebrating their ten-year journey on the road to becoming global megastars. BTS is currently on a temporary hiatus, but its tenth anniversary is being fully enjoyed both by global fans and Seoul city, parts of which have been lit up in purple the band’s signature color. Following in the footsteps of BTS, we are seeing other groups such as Stray Kids, and Fifty Fifty garnering attention more than ever before. What allowed BTS to break into the mainstream and rise to the top of the scene? And who are the other K-pop rookies we need to take a look at? For more on what’s going on in the K-pop scene, we have invited Bernie Cho, the president of DFSB Kollective. Bernie, welcome to the show. Q1. It has already been ten years since BTS debuted. Over the past decade they’ve had some remarkable achievements, but what is it about BTS that made fans from across the whole world fall in love with them? Q2. Over 40 BTS songs charted on the Billboard music charts and the group became the first K-pop act to be nominated for a Grammy. What impact did BTS have especially in terms of K-pop’s status in the global music industry? Q3. After releasing the anthology album “Proof“, they announced a hiatus from group activities and ever since then, each member has been focusing on their individual career. How was each member’s solo journey been up until now? Though their solo journeys are remarkable enough, we hope we can see them back as a whole in the near future. Moving on to other K-pop acts Q4. Stray Kids topped the U.S. Billboard 200 chart this week for the third time with their third full-length album “5-Star.“ This made them the only Korean act other than BTS to top Billboard’s main albums chart more than twice. What is it about that is attracting global attention? Q5. Fifty Fifty, a four-member girl group became the fastest K-pop group to enter the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 since their debut last November. An interesting fact about them is that the group was put together by a small agency. This received extra attention as usually the success of a group often matches the size of the agency. What does Fifty Fifty’s success hint at? Alright, Bernie that’s all the questions I have. Thank you for your insights. I appreciate it. Meanwhile, movie theaters are seeing audiences return in bigger numbers following a slump in attendance for Korean-made films. And for this we invite Jason Bechervaise, film critic and professor at Kyungdong University. Jason, good to see you again. Q1. South Korean crime action film “The Roundup: No Way Out“ has already reached over 8 million ticket sales. Experts say it has become a successful “crime action franchise.“ What is drawing so many moviegoers? Q2. But before “The Roundup: No Way Out“, Korean-made movies were seeing a slump. According to the Korean Film Council, due to a lack of hit films, Korean movies’ market share at the local box office fell below 20 percent in May. Though we are expected to see the share go up thanks to “The Roundup“ why are Korean films performing so poorly? Q3. How should the challenges facing Korean movies be tackled? Q4. We are seeing many more Japanese animated films such as “Suzume“ grabbing moviegoers’ attention recently. What strengths do these movies have? Q5. Now that “The Roundup“ has opened up a gateway for Korean movies to flex their muscles, many tentpole films are expected to hit the local box office. What films are we expecting? Alright, unfortunately, that’s all the time we have for today’s edition. Thank you Jason for your insights. We appreciated it. #BTS #ARMY #Kpop #Boygroup #Idol #BTS_Festa #Movie #Theater #Film #Box_office #아이돌 #보이그룹 #방탄소년단 #BTS #BTS_페스타 #영화 #범죄도시3 #천만관객 #박스오피스 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2023-06-16, 18:30 (KST)
