The Black Moth

There are two wolves in my head. One has mommy issues. The other simps for Bruno. Ah ahah ha I’m BACK! With don’t know what this is actually. But I had fun. I recommend headphones because it’s kinda quiet because I still don’t know how to master apparently. Also as usual I did a lot of audio panning. Wanna know how many live instruments I used in this song? Warning it’s a lot. Baritone ukulele Soprano ukulele Dilapidated Mandolin (literally a day before I give it away) Guitalele Electric guitar Electric bass Kalimba (I FINALLY GOT TO USE IT!) Cajon (first time since Ghost Boy I’ve recorded it) Lots of midi synths THUNDERRRR And some other stuff I’m probably forgetting lol Okay so what was going through my head when I made this? WELL. I read a REALLY sad fanfic about Bruno and Alma’s relationship and it kind of mirrors my own relationship with my mom, so this is, as usual, a venty song. The fic is called Futuro by ZenyZootSuit on ao3. Made me cry buckets. Highly recommended. I don’t think I’ve gone this hard on bariuke ? I was listening to some Hozier and was super inspired by his amazing guitar skills, and since I’m tryna get into music school I thought it’d be good for my audition if I have some complicated uke bits. My fingers hurt. Heheh also—VOCAB LESSON! I got to use “languor“ which means “an oppressive stillness of the air“ in addition to referencing Dolores’ song with the static line. Since I mention the sad ratman so much in my music I thought it’s only fair if I allude to our girl Dolores too. In the line where Bruno’s talking about napalm skies, I kinda made up this headcanon that when he was young he was exposed to a lot of destruction in his visions. But as a five-year-old, you’re not gonna know what a nuke is, so in his little toddler innocence he just thought the carnage looked cool. I’m making myself sad imagining little Bruno showing Alma his visions and Not getting the reaction he wanted. ANYWAY. There’s a lot of stuff in the lyrics that I feel obliged to explain, so I’ll do that in my lyric breakdown later. Don’t be too confused, I’m forcing us to use our amazing critical thinking skills. Still, I very much love it when people break down my lyrics in the comments, feels validating. And I love y’all! I’ve gotten so much support and it makes my heart warm. Hope you enjoy this!
