The Beautiful Nightmares of Aleksandra Waliszewska

Aleksandra Waliszewska is a Polish artist born in Warsaw in 1976, who since then would first emerge as one of the most promising young talents within the Polish art scene, then go on to opening more than 20 solo exhibitions within her home country and beyond. She has amassed a big and loyal fanbase on her Instagram as well, which I must have spent a good few hours exploring over the week. The hundreds of dream-like paintings she has shared to the world range from not only ominous and threatening, but to tranquil and almost humorous as well, showing vast range in not only her techniques, but within her concepts and her imagination. Probably the most crucial element I have noticed in her work however, or what I personally feel are the most heartbreaking themes within this world of intense, and sometimes graphic imagery, are the themes of torture, opression, sexual subjegation, brutalily yet beautiflly portraying these themes from the female perspective.
