Mozart: Symphony No. 40

Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 was composed in 1788. Sometimes it is referred to as the Great G Minor Symphony, to distinguish it from the Little G Minor Symphony, Symphony No. 25. The only two extant symphonies by Mozart in the minor key. Symphony No. 40 was written by Mozart around the same time as the Symphony No. 39 and 41. Mozart might have intended it as one unified work as No. 40 does not have an introduction like No. 39 and no finale like No. 41.
