We started writing Surrender The Throne back in the Spring of 2014. Pegboard Nerds crushed the production. The horns take me back to my high school days of blasting Catch 22 in my friends’ cars at gas station parking lots in the burbs. The initial inspiration for the song came from experiencing someone who had a sense of grandiosity and entitlement. On a personal level, Yasmine & I saw the dangerous nature of someone allowing their demons demand power. Eventually we realized the meaning of the song applied to not only those who become delusional from their fame & success, but also those within the political system who abuse their power. Instead of letting the intimidation of others break us down, this song gives us strength to stand up to the motherfuckers and TAKE BACK THE POWER!
