Credo (part 3 of 3)

In this final part, Credo dissolves to the present with footage of the 1995 genocide commemorations in Yerevan, taken from Carlo Messa’s brilliant documentary ’Destination: Nowhere’. The work followed Wegner’s grandson retracing his forebears footsteps through the killing fields of Asia Minor, and included his own pilgrimage to the memorial at Tsitsernakaberd during the massive 80th anniversary commemoration. The footage Messa captured of thousands walking towards the monument eloquently embodies the healing power of the final movement of the 2nd Symphony, connecting the past with the present, the dead with the living, darkness with the light.
