On Monday, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the border region between Panama and Costa Rica. The tremors occurred at 04:54 local time, when residents were still sleeping. The epicenter was at a depth of 11 km, 15 km east of the town of Progreso. Tremors were felt in the Panamanian provinces of Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro and the Puntarenas province in Costa Rica. Two and a half hours later, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred. The earthquake caused concern among local residents. On social networks, eyewitnesses share footage of the natural disaster.
