:Zoviet*France: and Lathe Revival: Live Performance

Monday 4 May 2015, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. :zoviet*france: abandon their customary approach to playing live and create a unique one-hour show using sound sources entirely derived from playing damaged and manipulated vinyl records. The records are physically distorted, fractured and abraded to extract a raw essence, reconfigured by the group into something very different from the original recordings. The performance was cut live on to 78 discs by Lathe Revival. This event coincides with the exhibition The Curves of the Needle at BALTIC’s project space, BALTIC 39, Newcastle. The Curves of the Needle considers a recurring interest in the vinyl record by artists. This group exhibition explores album artwork, the cultural significance of the record collection and brings together contemporary artists who have experimented with the format.
