Maximilian & Marie De Bourgogne, fight scene 2: Zweihänder

Fight scene from the TV series Maximilian & Marie De Bourgogne (2017). Nicely shot and choreographed, yet apparently the weapons and armour are somewhat inaccurate. Zweihänder swords of this type were not used until well into the 1500s yet this is set in 1477; the earliest we see are in the Goliath Fechtbuch of 1510-1520 and without parrying hooks. Maximilian is missing the bevor (gorget) that accompanies the sallet (helmet) and his opponent’s pig-faced bascinet is a couple of generations too early. Despite these issues, as historical reconstructions go this is nonetheless enjoyable and gives a feel for what it is like to duel in armour. Because who doesn’t like whacking people with massive swords? Feel free to comment on any other issues below.
