SKANDAMATA MANTRA Om Devi Skandamatayai Namaha Skandmata is the fifth incarnation of Goddess Durga, and she is worshipped on the fifth day of the Navaratri festival. Being the mother of Lord Skanda or Kartikeya she is named Skandmata. Skandmata is depicted with four hands, she holds lotus flower in two hands, one hand is in the posture of blessing her devotees, and with the other hand, she holds her son Kartikeya the Lord of war, who is seated on her lap. She rides on a lion. Skandamata’s complexion is white and she is seated on the lotus flower, because of which she is also called Padmasana meaning the Padma—lotus asana—seated. Skandamata is worshipped with red flowers and besides other fruits and sweets, banana fruit is a compulsory offering.
