Classic Scottish folk song “The Braes o’ Killiecrankie“ by Mad Ferret duo live in Perth Jan 2020
The Mad Ferret duo from Perth with “The Braes o’ Killiecrankie“ performed in the tunnels under the river Tay bridge by Perth City centre. The duo features Chris Woods on Mandolin and Sandy Stirton on Guitar. This was from their live performances during the ’Music in the Park’ event on 27th January 2020, part of the Riverside Light Nights Winter Festival event in Norie Miller Park.
The Battle of Killiecrankie was fought in 1689, as part of the Jacobite rebellion. James Hogg made a collection of songs relating to the battles and campaigns. It was published as Jacobite Reliques in 1819. The first three verses and the chorus were written by Robert Burns and set to an older melody. Hogg may have had a hand in writing the additional verses.
