“Beita is undefeatable“: Inside the struggle to save this Palestinian village from Israeli settlers

In early May, a group of Israeli settlers arrived with caravans and set up an illegal outpost on the top of Jabal Sabih on the outskirts of Beita, in the northern occupied West Bank. Since then, the Palestinian residents of Beita have been protesting non stop. Over the course of the protests, five Palestinians have been killed, including two teenagers. After more then eight weeks of protests, the Israeli government came to an agreement with the settlers, stating that the settler families would leave the outpost, but the structures would remain in place, under the permanent guard of the Israeli military, and would eventually be turned into A Yeshiva school. The Palestinians in Beita have rejected the deal, and say they won’t stop protesting until every single caravan has been removed from the mountaintop, and the soldiers and settlers are no longer on their land.
