‘It was the first time I recorded a farewell message and buried my phone...’ Aleksey Smirnov recalls how, on one of his first trips to Donbass in 2014, he found himself half-surrounded by the Ukrainian army.
Aleksey found himself in mortal danger and under shelling more than once. He and his comrades carry humanitarian aid to the most inaccessible settlements. The story of the volunteer is in our video and in episode 7 of the series ‘Here and Now’.
