“Only a Fool Breaks His Own Heart“ is a song that was composed in in 1964 by American songwriters Norman Bergen and Shelly Coburn. The version by The Mighty Sparrow with Byron Lee & the Dragonaires charted in 1969 in the UK as well as in the Netherlands where it reached #31 in the Dutch Top 40 on 21 June 1969. The song re-entered the Dutch charts in 1977, spending a staggering 27 weeks on the charts and peaking at #2 on 8 April 1978. It became the #3 song of that year in the Netherlands.
