Animal postures in kalari training

The video presents animal postures done in kalarippayattu (kalari) training at Studio Kalari. The postures are arranged in a sequence, and performed first on the right side, and then on the left side. The animal postures are based on observation of animals in their vigilant poses, and they aim at concentration of power and explosiveness. Usually there are different exercises for each posture. They are also part of more complex sequences of movements, and prepare for combat with use of weapons. The postures in the film are: 1. Gaja vadivu: elephant 2. Simha vadivu: lion 3. Varaaha vadivu: wild boar 4. Kukkuda vadivu: rooster 5. Mayura vadivu: peacock 6. Matsya vadivu: fish 7. Ashwa vadivu: horse 8. Maarjaara vadivu: cat 9.
