Microsoft Auto SR Tested: AI Upscaling For Every Game... But How Good Is It?
Microsoft’s ’Windows on ARM’ initiative isn’t great for gaming right now - but its Auto SR technology is definitely intriguing. Using a hardware neural processing unit, Auto SR is a screen-space AI upscaler that takes game resolutions in the 700 to 900 line range and makes them look much more presentable on higher resolution displays - good for laptops for sure, but not that bad on a desktop either. It’s not really comparable to DLSS etc, but it’s certainly interesting and doesn’t impact frame-rates - though it does add 12ms of input lag. Rich has the full low-down.
