The creed of slaves

William Pitt the Younger, Prime Minister of Britain in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, said that, ‘Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.’ Never have these words been more relevant, with a government which has for the last couple of years been infringing on human freedom with that very plea of necessity.
