Prehistoric tombs indicate the Dartmoor has been roaming the craggy moors since ancient times, but it wasn’t until the mid-20th century that the Winterwells imported the breed to Jorvik to join their Welsh ponies.  With a compact yet hardy build, the Dartmoor has a history of being used in rugged labor such as mining.
