Meet the Changemakers - Candela

To successfully transition to a low carbon society, inefficient ways of working must be abandoned while more sustainable solutions get embraced. We Don’t Have Time is excited to announce the first entries in a new series all about businesses that are transforming what it means to take climate action with their unique solutions. Most of us don’t think that boats are supposed to fly. However, Candela has changed that for the better, with their frictionless, waveless, and fumeless flying electric boats. Using hydrofoil technology, they’ve challenged the concept of what a boat can be. Initially a vessel designed for private transportation that would be more comfortable and cheaper to drive, Candela’s technology has caught the attention of public transportation companies. Authorities in Stockholm are scheduled to test Candela’s public ferries next spring. Their hydrofoil-based, micro ferries aren’t just powered by electricity rather than fossil fuels, they’re smaller and more modular, able to scale up or down traffic on waterways to suit commuters’ needs, all while putting less carbon in our atmosphere.
