The Story of the Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera (G Model)

The Porsche 911 was about to be cancelled. What sounds unbelievable today was a very real possibility in 1981. Porsche wanted to focus on its transaxle cars like the 924, 944 and 928, since they felt the 911 was an outmoded concept. Thanks to new company boss Peter Schutz, the 911 lived on and he was instrumental in bringing the 3.2 Carrera to life. It followed the 911 SC and regardless of whether it had the 915 or the G50 gearbox, it became a big success and saved the whole 911 range. This is its story.
