Bach - Alles mit Gott und nichts ohn’ ihn BWV 1127 - Rademann | Netherlands Bach Society

The strophic aria Alles mit Gott und nichts ohn’ ihn – recorded here for All of Bach with Hans-Christoph Rademann – was a flattering occasional work for the birthday of the duke Wilhelm Ernst van Saksen-Weimar. Bach took the duke’s motto as its starting point: “Everything with God and nothing without him”. The cheerful music and key – Bach opted for C major – emphasise the festivity of the occasion. The voice is ushered in by an instrumental introduction, and instead of just a voice and basso continuo, each strophe ends with a refrain played by a full string ensemble.
