This lecture on the Shiba Inu was given by the World Union of Akita Clubs (WUAC) in Japan in June 2024. The purpose is to focus on the FCI/JKC standard and correct type for the Shiba Inu.
The WUAC is the federation for Akita Clubs of the FCI countries for Akita. While they focus mainly on the FCI/JKC standards for the Akita they also host seminars for the various other Japanese breeds such as the Shikoku and Shiba.
FCI - Fédération Cynologique Internationale. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale is the largest international federation of national kennel clubs and purebred registries.
JKC - Japan Kennel Club. The Japan Kennel Club is the primary registry body for purebred dog pedigrees in Japan.
NIPPO - Nihon Ken Hozonkai. The Nihon Ken Hozonkai, commonly abbreviated to NIPPO, is a preserver and maintainer of the registries for the six native Japanese dog breeds: the Akita Inu, Hokkaido, Kai Ken, Kishu, Shikoku, and Shiba Inu. NIPPO also issues the NIPPO Standard, which serves as a breed standard for the six native breeds.
