Battle of Hastings: Norman Conquest 1066 Year 7 History Revision
In 1066, Edward the Confessor died, leaving no heir to the English throne. Three men staked their claim to the English crown; Harold Godwinson, William of Normandy and Harald Hardrada. Harold Godwinson defeated Harald Hardrada’s viking army at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in September 1066. In October 1066 the Normans led by William defeated Harold Godwinson’s Anglo-Saxon army at the Battle of Hastings. The Normans successfully conquered England and William was crowned King on Christmas Day 1066, changing the course of English history. William would forever be known as William The Conqueror.
