Turkey: Government showcases wall along Iran border aimed at stopping refugees

Subscribe to our channel! The Turkish government showed the wall constructed along the border with Iran in Van province during a media tour on Friday. The barrier is aimed at deterring an expected increase in numbers of Afghan refugees attempting to cross from the neighbouring country. The completed part of the three-metre wall stretches for around 156 km, or just under 100 miles, out of its 560 km, all topped by razor sharp wires and patrolled by army guards in armored vehicles with constant drone surveillance. Several detention sites and watch towers can also be seen near the wall. According to the UNHCR, around 500,000 Afghanis are expected to leave the country by the end of the year. An estimated 100,000 Afghanis who had worked with the foreign allies have already been airlifted. Turkey warned that it will not be able to accommodate any more asylum applications from Afghanis. #Turkey #Iran #Vanprovince Video ID: 20210904-002 Video on Demand:
