Did you know this in Apocalypse Now? In an early scene where Captain Willard is alone in his hotel room, the unexpected and intense events were completely unscripted. Martin Sheen, who portrayed Captain Willard, took charge and told the camera crew to keep rolling without following a script. At that moment, Sheen was genuinely intoxicated, adding to the authenticity of the scene. He became so absorbed in his character and personal struggles that he impulsively punched the mirror, which was made of real glass, resulting in a cut on his thumb. During this raw and emotional moment, Sheen also broke down in tears and attempted to confront director Francis Ford Coppola. The crew was deeply disturbed by the unexpected turn of events and considered stopping the shooting. However, Sheen insisted on continuing, believing that facing his problems in this unscripted scene would help him confront his own inner demons. This revealing and powerful moment was later discussed between Coppola and Sheen, and it was eventually included in the Redux version of the film.
