I am sharing my brand new sand story. I never knew about DADA2 before one of parents of kids with this illness contacted me and told their story. DADA2 Foundation is very young but they do a big job. Deficiency of Adenosine Deaminase 2 or DADA2 is a very rare genetic disease that was only discovered in 2014. It can cause strokes (some children have 5 to 7 stokes!), absent immune system and failure of the bone marrow which may require bone marrow transplant. Children can have one or all of these three types of DADA2. This disease effects children all over the word from Russia, South Africa, China, Japan, Saudi Arabi, all of the European countries, Israel, Turkey and other including the United States. Drugs called TNF-inhibitors can treat the stroke portion of the disease, but the immune defect and the bone marrow failure can really only be treated by bone marrow transplant which is very risky and at least one child has died from a transplant.
