In full: Armed Forces re-enact parachute drop in Normandy | D-day

Hundreds of Armed Forces personnel are parachuting over Normandy to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. As tributes moved from Portsmouth to the beaches of northern France, some 400 British, Belgian, Canadian and US paratroopers are taking part in the jump, descending into a historic D-Day drop zone to recreate the airborne liberation of Normandy in June 1944. It comes after the King gave a speech earlier at a memorial event in Portsmouth, in which he warned that we must never forget the service and sacrifice of D-Day veterans and urged the nation not to take a “passive” role in listening to their tales of bravery and courage. The King delivered a stirring address to the hundreds gathered in the sunshine, overlooking the sea where 80 years ago hundreds of thousands of men had set off for Normandy, so many never to return.
