Russian warships launch missiles during drills in the Arctic

RUSSIA is holding naval drills in the northeast aimed at protecting the Arctic Ocean shipping route, involving around 10,000 personnel, the Russian defense ministry said on Monday (September 18). According to ministry’s website, the drills are taking place at the Chukotka peninsula and the waters of the Chukchee and the Bering seas. During the drills, the crews of the guards missile cruiser “Varyag“, the nuclear submarine missile cruiser “Tomsk“, as well as the coastal missile system “Bastion“ practiced the missile strikes with the use of cruise missiles “Vulcan“, “Granit“ and “Onyx“, the ministry said.
