For children there is no distinction between these two -- playing games of cops and robbers, choosing dream jobs and best friends forever. A past life spent with friends and family, at malls and fairs, on trampolines and see-saws -- I remember it viscerally, in flashes between hangovers, fast food dinners, and phone calls about a car I don’t have. Resigned to a surreal, alienated adulthood, only truly feeling alive through childhood memories, I choose to believe in the power of the mind. I don’t want to do my chores anymore. I don’t want to wash dishes or book haircuts or ever read another email. Between naked walls, by faith in my imagination, I manifest something else.
